The only masking decision that reliably goes wrong
Masking tape is the simplest product we sell and the one that generates the most complaints — almost all of them from the same mistake. Somebody uses a general-purpose grade in an oven process, the adhesive cures onto the substrate, and the tape comes off in shreds.
Temperature grade is not a marketing tier. It describes the adhesive chemistry, and using the wrong one is a predictable failure rather than a quality issue.
| Grade | Rated to | Typical dwell | Use it for |
|---|---|---|---|
| General | 60 °C | Up to 7 days | Interior decoration, painter’s tape, light touch-up |
| Medium | 90 °C | Up to 14 days | Automotive refinish, body shops, industrial spray masking |
| High temperature | 160 °C | About 1 hour at peak | Powder coating, wave soldering, electronics masking |
Note the dwell column. A high-temperature tape is rated for a short, hot exposure, not for a fortnight in the sun. Conversely, a medium grade that holds for two weeks at ambient may lift after twenty minutes at 140 °C. Temperature and time trade against each other, and the rating assumes you are inside both limits.
Removal, and why “no residue” has conditions
Every grade we sell removes cleanly inside its rated window. Outside it, adhesive transfers — that is chemistry, not a defect. UV exposure shortens the window more than heat does, so on exterior surfaces remove sooner than the datasheet suggests.
If you are masking a surface you cannot clean afterwards, tell us. We would rather sell you a lower-tack grade that removes cleanly than win a price comparison and lose you a customer.
Decorating
General grade for clean paint lines on interior walls and trim.
Auto refinish
Medium grade that survives oven bake cycles in body shops.
Powder coating
High-temperature grade for masking during curing at 160 °C.
Electronics
High-temperature grade for masking during soldering and conformal coating.
Sizes and formats
Standard widths are 18, 24, 36 and 48 mm, in metric and imperial equivalents. Lengths run from 18 m consumer rolls to 50 m trade rolls. Custom widths can be slit to order. A washi-paper option is available for decorating delicate surfaces where a 30-day removal window is needed.

Frequently asked
Which temperature grade do I need?
Choose 60 °C for interior decoration and light painting, 90 °C for automotive refinish and medium-bake processes, and 160 °C for powder coating, wave soldering and any oven process above 100 °C. Using a general-grade tape in a high-temperature oven is the single most common cause of residue complaints.
How long can the tape stay on before removal?
General grade: up to 7 days. Medium grade: up to 14 days. High-temperature grade: removal within about an hour of peak exposure. UV and heat both shorten the window — on exterior surfaces, remove sooner rather than later.
Does masking tape leave residue?
Residue is a function of temperature, dwell time and surface. Used inside its rated window, our crepe paper grades remove cleanly without leaving adhesive. Exceeding the temperature grade is what causes transfer.
Is it available in metric and imperial widths?
Both. The common trade sizes are 18, 24, 36, 48 mm and 3/4 in, 1 in, 1.5 in, 2 in. Custom widths can be slit to order.
